A lecture by
Ms. Engin Kadaster
Archaeologist
On Saturday March 10th, over 50 guests from the Turkish American community of Southern California came together at Laguna Altura Clubhouse for a special event in recognition of International Women’s Day hosted by Turkish American Ladies League (TALL). It was wonderful to have the recently appointed Honorable Consul General Can Oğuz and his wife Hümeyra Oğuz among the guests.
The event started with streaming videos of messages from TALL’s nine scholarship recipients at Çağdaş Yaşamı Destekleme Derneği (ÇYDD) in Istanbul. There were also thank you messages from the ÇYDD Board of Directors at the Şişli branch. We’re very thankful for our lovely board member, Elçim Alpan, for visiting the ÇYDD offices and meeting with the scholarship recipients in İstanbul and shooting all of the great videos shared at this event.
Up next was an exciting lecture on Sagalassos, an ancient city in Turkey near Burdur, with extensive historical significance. The lecture was given by one of TALL’s biggest supporters, a successful archeologist Engin Kadaster who is very passionate about Turkey. Mrs. Kadaster is an amazing presenter and delivers popular and fascinating lectures on Turkish archeological sites and history. The TALL board was pleased to recognize Engin Kadaster for her contributions on this special day.
In honor of International Women’s Day, all the funds raised this day as a result of our guests’ generous donations will directly benefit ÇYDD. ÇYDD is an organization that aims to fight gender discrimination and increase literacy of women in Turkey to carry Turkey above contemporary civilization level.
As the members of the TALL Board of Directors, we would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our members and guests that are always there to support us.
